Broward Sheriff’s deputies say a woman who stole an iPad from a Deerfield Beach McDonald’s returned the device with an apology note.
The June 12 incident caught on camera shows the woman enter the store and place her order. A short time later, a male customer comes in behind her to place an order and leaves his iPad on the counter.
The woman later returns to the counter to get a Happy Meal when she spots the iPad, deputies say. She briefly stops, looks around and grabs the iPad before walking out of the restaurant.
Surveillance video shows the victim of the theft looking around for his device.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, an unidentified man returned to the McDonald’s on Aug. 9, wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.
Deputies say the man placed a small, blue gift bag on the counter and walked out.
The restaurant manager opened the bag and found the stolen iPad and a hand written note that said, “To whom it may concern, this was an honest mistake. I am returning iPad to manager of McDonald’s. iPad that belongs to Daniel Rodriguez.”
The manager notified authorities and deputies returned the stolen property to its rightful owner on Tuesday.
Deputies say the woman still has not been identified.
